Gear up 2012

Here are some answers to some FAQs. If you have questions that aren't addressed here, either leave a comment or shoot me an email and I'll do my best to respond promptly. Thanks!

What are the dates of Gear Up?
This year they are June 30-July 10.
We will leave from Eden at 8am on June 30 (very promptly!) and arrive back close to 8pm on July 10. I will send parents a text when we're getting close.

What is the cost of Gear Up?
The whole trip costs $850. This includes: team meetings, transportation there and back, food, accommodations, and transportation while in Montreal.
This does not include: money for food on the way there and back, souvenirs, or extra snacks while there.

Payment Schedule:

Feb. 17 $100
March 8 $100
March 30 $100
April 12 $100
April 27 $100
May 11 $100
May 25 $100
June 15 $150

Fundraisers:
  • coupons: $10 for a sheet of coupons worth ~$110-120 ($7 out of $10 goes to Gear Up; $5 for student, $2 for team)
  • hotdog sales during exam week
  • Sponsor forms have been emailed out. Let me know if you still need a copy sent to you.
Team Meetings:
These are currently scheduled for Wednesdays after school (3:00-4:00). We will evaluate how many people on our team can participate on these days and try to accommodate as many people as possible. Here are the dates to mark on your calendars:
April 4
April 18
May 2
May 16
May 30
June 6
June 20
June 27

Volunteer Hours:
This trip does count for student volunteer hours. If they fill out their forms from guidance when we're back, then I will sign them.

Other Thoughts:
  • OHIP will cover many things in Quebec, but is probably limited in some ways. Feel free to research this more and purchase travellers insurance if you feel it is necessary.
  • Students are expected to leave all cell phones, iPods, and electronics at home. They will be participating in a media fast, beginning when we get on the bus and ending when we're back at Eden.
  • I will post a packing list closer to the departure date
Please be in prayer for this trip! We want each participant to experience God at work in their lives. We hope for students (and leaders) to step out of their comfort zones to share the hope that we have in Christ. We anticipate this being a time of spiritual growth, of personal reflection, and of reliance on God.

A specific prayer request at this time: pray that God provides a male leader for our team; someone who will be able to connect with the students and lead with godly wisdom.
